St. Mary's Basketball Star Working Toward 2012 Olympics

He claimed the heart of a nation last year during the NCAA Tournament, now former St. Mary's standout Omar Samhan is headed to Egypt. The San Jose Mercury News says the former Gael will spend his summer playing for the Egyptian national team.

You may remember Samhan from last year's landmark run by St. Mary's to the Sweet 16. He scored 29 points in an upset of Richmond, then led the team with 32 points to beat Villanova. The Danville native played in the NBA's summer league with the Dallas Mavericks and then headed to Lithuania to play pro ball.

This summer, he will play in the All Africa Games with the Egyptian team. If all goes well, you'll see Samhan and the rest of the Egyptian team in the 2012 Olympics in London.

Sanham's father is from Egypt and returns there frequently for business.
