Stanford Shopping Center Turns To Crime Scene

Area would be considred ultra-safe by most South Bay residents.

Palo Alto police are searching for armed robbers who stole jewelry from a man in the Stanford Shopping Center parking lot.

The man was also assaulted, according to police.

This all happened in broad daylight near the Macy's Men's store.

Police said several people called 911 around 2:30 Tuesday reporting that a man had been beaten in the parking lot.

When they arrived the unidentified man in his 60s told them he had just left a jewelry store where he had some jewelry appraised. He was putting the jewelry back in his trunk when he was approached by well dressed men who beat and robbed him.

Police said the victim and the witnesses described the suspects as three or four men, who were possibly Hispanic. They described the primary suspect as being in his 30s, with a goatee and was wearing a hip-length black jacket, white slacks, black shoes and a black driving cap. He was armed with a handgun.

All of the robbers left the scene in a black Dodge minivan.  Police did not disclosed how much or what kind of jewelry was taken.

The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital with minor injuries, but has since been released.
