Should BART strikes be illegal?

State Senator Mark DeSaulnier thinks so and says it may be time for California to follow the lead of states like Oregon and New York, where mass transit strikes are not allowed.

San Francisco and Los Angeles are the only two major metropolitan areas in the United States that allow transit strikes.

However, unions representing BART workers say derailing their rights to strike would give the transit agency the upper hand.
