Stolen Personal Documents From More Than 100 People Found in Stolen Van in Vacaville

Vacaville police have arrested three Sacramento residents on suspicion of stealing the identities of more than 100 residents from California and Oregon.

Police were alerted to people looking into vehicles at a hotel on Lawrence Drive Tuesday morning, and responding officers found a U-Haul van that was reported stolen on Monday.

Officers noticed a man and woman watching them from a window in a stairway of the hotel, and the startled couple disappeared from sight, police said.

Doug Brown, 30, and Samantha Krauss, 21, of Sacramento, attempted to flee. Brown, who was holding a U-Haul key, tried to discard methamphetamine in front of an officer, police said.

Anthony Solis, 29, of Sacramento was found to be with Brown and Krauss, and officers linked all three with the theft of the stolen van, police said.

Police found bags in the U-Haul van that contained identifying information belonging to more than 100 California and Oregon residents, and Brown, Krauss and Solis were arrested on suspicion of identity theft, vehicle theft, conspiracy and violations of their probations.

Krauss also was arrested on two warrants out of Sacramento and she and Solis were arrested for vehicle theft with a prior conviction, police said. Krauss is being held under no bail in the Solano County Jail.

Police said the identity theft investigation will be lengthy because of the number of victims.
