Storm, Flood Damage “Heartbreaking” to Tiburon Salon Owner

Clean up efforts after flooding caused by a heavy storm are underway in dozens of spots in the Bay Area.

In Marin, the damage extends from a mobile home park in Novato to a shopping center in Tiburon.

Businesses at Tiburon's Cove Shopping Center were also flooded on Wednesday. Shop owners and employees spent Thursday cleaning up and assessing the damage.

"That was heartbreaking. That was tough to watch because you could see the damage being done right in front of your eyes," said Maggie Champagne, who owns Champagne Salon and Day Spa.

Security cameras shows water creeping into the salon. When Champagne got to her shop on Wednesday, she said there was two inches of water inside.

"The parking lot was like a swimming pool," she said.

Champagne estimates the damage to her salon is at least $30,000. She is talking with an attorney to figure out who, if anyone, shares the responsibility for what turned out to be a very expensive rain storm.

Around the corner from Champagne's salon on Cicilia Way, Pablo Castro was also assessing damage to his business.

"My wood floors are all damaged,' Castro said. "They have to come out -- they're not salvageable."

Castro owns a wood flooring business and put in maple, bamboo and cherry floors that were ruined from flooding.
