Street Sweeper Driver Hospitalized After Truck Swerves Off Interstate 680

The driver of a street sweeper truck was hospitalized with broken ribs and a punctured lung after the vehicle swerved off northbound Interstate 680 in Sunol early Thursday morning.

The driver, a 64-year-old man from Redwood City, swerved for an unknown reason, just south of Koopman Road, and crashed down an embankment at about 5:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The man was transported to Eden Medical Center.

All lanes were closed for about seven hours while Caltrans crews pulled the truck out of the embankment.
