Gentlemen's Club Planned in Downtown San Jose

The city of San Jose’s reputation is being tested by a strip club that’s setting up shop downtown.

The Gold Club is getting ready to open at the corner of W. Santa Clara and Market streets -- just a few blocks from city hall.

People who have lived and visited San Jose might recall the historic building has already housed a nightclub, and it has a permit for serving alcohol.

The city spokesman confirms that the location is zoned for entertainment, but not nudity.

“Other cities do allow nudity, we won’t. Other cities allow greeters state of undress than we do. Other cities allow for the doors to be open we will not. In fact we don’t allow strip clubs at all in the city of San Jose,” San Jose City Councilman Sam Liccardo said.

There has not yet been opportunity for public comment at city hall, because the location has the proper zoning for a club.
