Strong Gas Odor Reported at San Jose Airport

The San Jose Fire Department was investigating a strong gas odor reported at Mineta San Jose International Airport Saturday morning, an airport spokeswomen said.

The propane-type odor was reported at about 8:15 a.m., airport Public Information Manager Rosemary Barnes said. The smell was concentrated near the Gate 22 ramp and the Southwest Airlines first-floor offices.

The area was evacuated. San Jose fire did not report any terminal impacts.

San Jose fire did not find the odor's source, but investigators believe it may have came from Highway 101. The winds may have carried it to the airport's ventilation system.

The odor is now gone.
