Student Driver Hits 6 People in Crosswalk

Real-life lesson in crosswalk safety

A student driver hit six people who were crossing a street in Livermore Saturday night, police said. One of the victims was airlifted to a hospital.

The driver, 20-year-old Farhat Mohammad of Livermore, was behind the wheel of a Honda Civic learning to drive when she made a left turn into the crosswalk onto Vallecitos Road at Wetmore just before 8 p.m., hitting the pedestrians. She had a valid permit and was accompanied by a licensed driver, according to police.

One person was airlifted and an ambulance took two other victims to a hospital. The remaining three pedestrians received minor injuries. None of the injuries are life-threatening.
