Suspect Arrested in Murder of San Jose Woman Found in Car Near School

A suspect was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of murder in the death of a San Jose woman whose body was found in a car Tuesday near San Antonio Elementary School in East San Jose, a police spokesman said.

The suspect, who is not being identified, was taken into custody Wednesday and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail, according to police Officer Albert Morales.

Officers have identified the murder victim as Reina Figueroa, 49, of San Jose, Morales said.

The suspect's name will not be released until the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office reviews the case, Morales said.

Police on Tuesday responded to a 911 call about a body in a vehicle near the school in the 1700 block of San Antonio Street at 12:44 p.m., Morales said.

The victim was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene, Morales said.

The suspect and the victim knew one another, Morales said.

The murder was the 34th so far in San Jose in 2013, he said.
