Suspect in Lafayette Officer-Involved Shooting ID'd

The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office has identified the man shot by Lafayette police earlier this week as Michael Shock, 28, who authorities said threatened officers with a knife.

Sgt. Jimmy Lee said Shock picked up a weapon on Tuesday about 7 a.m. at 3425 Woodview Drive and "advanced toward the officers," at which point, one of them fired his gun. Shock was taken to John Muir Medical Center, where he remains in the hospital.

Shock has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon,  exhibiting a deadly weapon, making criminal threats and obstructing an  officer.

It was the first such kind of shooting in the city's history.
