Suspect on Meth Arrested After Burning Trash on North Bay Road

Sonoma County sheriff's deputies responding to a report of a naked man lighting fires in the middle of a road near Healdsburg arrested a man on suspicion of unlawfully lighting fires and possession of methamphetamine Monday morning.

The incident was reported in the 4700 block of Mill Creek Road around 5:45 a.m.

Responding deputies found a plastic garbage can that had been burned in the middle of the road, with smoldering sticks and clothing inside. Nearby, they found another fire burning in the middle of the street, but firefighters were already on the scene.

Local resident Jesse Wagy, 36, was found nearby wearing only shorts and sandals despite cool weather, according to the sheriff's office.

Wagy told them he was practicing using fire extinguishers with a friend, and that they'd been told it was "OK" by another unknown person. The friend and the person who gave them the go-ahead could not be found, sheriff's officials said.

Wagy appeared to be under the influence of meth and was found to be in possession of more than 5 grams of the drug. He was also carrying matches and a propane torch.

He was booked into Sonoma County Jail, and remains in custody on $10,000 bail.
