Suspicious Item Investigation Causes Capitol Corridor Delays in Emeryville

A Capitol Corridor train was delayed Tuesday afternoon because of an investigation into a suspicious item in Emeryville, according to the agency.

Capitol Corridor officials wrote on Twitter at 3:56 p.m. that Train 536 was stopped between Emeryville and Berkeley because of police activity. Train 536 runs east from Oakland to the Sacramento area.

Alameda County sheriff's officials said a bomb squad was at the scene tending to a suspicious item and a noise people may have heard was the bomb squad working with one of their tools.

Police asked the public to avoid the area of Shellmound Street between 64th and 65th streets because of the item but soon cleared the scene after the item was rendered safely.

No other information about the incident was immediately available.
