Santa Rosa police needed a K-9 unit and a Taser to subdue a suspect who on Saturday led officers on a pursuit - at both high and low speeds - in a car missing a right front tire, police said.

Police were told about 6:20 p.m. Saturday of "a black BMW with no tires and a shattered window" in the parking lot of the Safeway store on Fourth Street. The driver was suspected of needing medical attention and possibly of driving under the influence, said police Sgt. Hiroshi Yaguchi.

Before officers arrived at the grocery store, the BMW headed away; police caught up with it - with no right front tire -- on eastbound on Montgomery Drive. The car led police on a slow-speed pursuit onto northbound Mission Boulevard and then onto eastbound Highway 12, where speeds increased dramatically, Yaguchi said, up to 85 mph.

Police eventually stopped the BMW, but the suspect wouldn't get out of the car, Yaguchi said. Officers then tried to pull him out, but needed help from a police dog and a taser to get it done, Yaguchi said.

The driver, 31-year-old Micah Jamison Pearce Henry, was arrested on suspicion of felony evasion, driving under the influence of a drug, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and a violation of Post Release Community Supervision.
