Taxi Plunges Off Highway Near Fairfield, One Passenger Died, One Injured

A taxi passenger died Monday morning when the Green Cab leaving from San Jose plunged 100 feet off an embankment off Interstate Highway 680 in Fairfield.

According to California Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Lott,  the taxi, holding a driver and two passengers, flew off the highway near the Interstate 80 merge shortly after 1 a.m. before it landed onto Central Avenue, a city in Cordelia, which is between Fairfield and Vallejo.

Luggage and car wreckage was strewn about. One passenger died at the scene and the second passenger was taken to Fairfield Hospital. The driver was injured.

The CHP does not know why the taxi veered off the road.
