Teen Jogger Sexually Assaulted on Fremont Trail

Joggers and walkers in the East Bay are being warned to be extra vigilant after a teen girl was sexually assaulted on the Alameda County Creek trail in Fremont.

Police said a 15-year-old girl was out with her family Sunday afternoon when she jogged ahead off the trail and into a neighborhood on Caliban Avenue. That's when police said a man dressed in jogging clothes passed her by and then returned to sexually assault her.

"The male came back and groped her, quite invasively from behind," Fremont Police Officer Geneva Bosques said. "The male then left off, she immediately panicked, then froze, then called 911."

East Bay Regional Parks Police flooded the area with the assistance of a police helicopter, but were unable to locate the suspect.

The teen describes the suspect as a white man with a medium build, about 5 foot 7 inches tall, with short, curly black hair, a mustache and full beard. He was last seen wearing a royal blue spandex shirt over blue basketball shorts, and dark black sunglasses.

Fremont police have taken over the investigation. Anyone with information should contact the Fremont Police Department at 510-790-6800.
