Teenager Escapes Fremont Kidnapper

    A 23-year-old Fremont man has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping with the intent to rape, police said.

    Officers were called at around 7:05 a.m. Monday to respond to the area of Isherwood Way and Chaplin Drive in Fremont. Neighbors said that a 16-year-old girl contacted them, reporting that a man was chasing her with a knife, according to police.

    Investigators discovered the victim had driven to the Lucky supermarket at the Brookvale Shopping Center just before 7 a.m., parked her vehicle before entering the store.

    Police said while she was in the store, a man entered her car and hid in the back seat. The teenager returned to her car and drove off. She was later threatened by the man, who was armed with a knife, and was told to drive to a remote location in the area of Isherwood Way and Chaplin Drive, police said.

    There were some terrifying moments for a teenage girl in Fremont. Police there said a man hid in the girl's car and then forced her to drive to a remote location with the intent of sexually assaulting her. Jodi Hernandez reports on the brave escape.

    The teen was also ordered by the man to remove her clothing, police said.

    The girl was able to escape from the vehicle while she was in the process of parking the car. She ran to a neighboring home where she able to find help from a resident who called police.

    Police said the neighbor also immediately activated the panic feature on her residential alarm.

    "She was literally bolting down the street...as fast as she was running I knew something was wrong," said Star Santa Cruz, the neighbor who helped the girl.

    Investigators were able to identify the suspect based on evidence collected at the scene of the vehicle. Police identified Aron Kumar Roy as the suspect, and were able to arrest him at his workplace, the Best Buy in Dublin, at about 6 p.m.

    Roy was booked into Fremont Jail on the following six felony charges: kidnapping, kidnapping with the intent to commit rape, assault with a deadly weapon, assault with intent to commit a sex offense, false imprisonment and robbery. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in the Fremont Superior Court on Wednesday, police said.

    Police said the teenager was not physically harmed during the incident.
