Teens Arrested After 15-Year-Old Girl was Slashed with Box Cutter in Aptos

"It sounds like there was a lot of alcohol involved in this," Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Deputy April Skalland said.

Two teens have been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after a 15-year-old girl was slashed in the stomach with a box cutter during a fight after a beach party in Aptos.

The fight occurred as people were leaving a party at Seacliff State Beach around 2 a.m. Saturday, Santa Cruz County sheriff's Deputy April Skalland said.

The victim got into a fight with an 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl, and didn't notice right away that she had been cut, Skalland said.

"She didn't realize it until she was walking home and saw the blood," Skalland said.

At first the victim was hesitant to report her injury since there had been drinking at the party, Skalland said.

She eventually did report it after arriving home, and an ambulance crew arrived and gave her initial medical treatment, according to Skalland.

The girl agreed to go to the hospital the next day to have her wound examined.

Sheriff's deputies were able to locate the two suspects and took them into custody.

The 18-year-old, identified as Bailey Agnello, of Watsonville, was booked into jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism and giving false information to a police officer, Skalland said.

Skalland said Agnello faces the vandalism charge because she allegedly slashed a car's tires with the box cutter.

The 17-year-old girl was booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Skalland said she does not know what the fight was about but that the victim and the suspects were acquainted with each other.

"It sounds like there was a lot of alcohol involved in this," she said.
