Tesla Motors closed its Fremont factory early Friday morning after a crane accidentally brought down a power line into the factory at 6:35 a.m., a Tesla spokesperson said.
PG&E is currently on site, evaluating the situation and hope to have power restored later Friday afternoon. "Most non factory employees will work from our Palo Alto or other offices, or from home today," Tesla said.
Tesla's automobile manufacturing plant in Fremont is the company's principal production facility. Tesla describes the factory on its website as "one of the world's most advanced automotive factories."
Fremont police tweeted Friday morning that they had received several phone calls regarding a loud evacuation alarm going off near the Tesla factory. The incident is isolated to the Tesla plant, police said, adding that no widespread evacuations were in place.
The Fremont police and fire are not involved in the incident.
