Thieves Caught on Camera Breaking Into Saratoga Home

Two thieves were caught on camera inside a South Bay home in the middle of the afternoon. They passed over electronics in plain view, and stole something much more meaningful.

Surveillance video inside the home in Saratoga on Tuesday around 1 p.m. shows two men holding their sleeves over their hands to prevent leaving fingerprints and covering their faces. The whole time, they seem oblivious to the surveillance camera in the corner of the living room.

"We never thought we'd record anything like this,” Katerina said.

Katerina didn’t plan to spend Wednesday, her 30th birthday, reviewing surveillance video but says she found an early present. One of the men let down his guard and looked directly into the camera. She says it gives her hope, considering what they took.

"It's heartbreaking,” she said.

Katerina says they stole her mother's jewelry. Items, her mother left her when she died of cancer 11 years ago.

"That was something I was really hoping to pass onto my grandchildren at some point, and so it's pretty sad stuff,” she said.

Katerina and the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office hope you'll recognize the men, and help find the missing jewelry. She also hopes the thieves find some help.

β€œIt’s very disappointing to realize people are desperate enough to do something like that.”
