Police have arrested the father of a third-grade student who brought a gun to school in San Ramon in one of four such campus incidents in the Bay Area this week.

The Twin Creeks Elementary School student on Tuesday had the firearm in his backpack and showed it to classmates, officials said Wednesday. One of the students reported the incident to a parent, who in turn contacted school administrators.

Police responded to the campus after they were contacted by officials.

During the ensuing investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant for the student's residence and an arrest warrant for his father, identified as Anthony O'Donnell, 30, of San Ramon.

The gun was found in the child's backpack at home and O'Donnell was taken into custody and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. He faces a number of charges, including possession of stolen property, child endangerment and criminal storage of a firearm that is accessible to a child. Bail is set at $140,000.

Officials said the gun was never brandished or used to threaten another student. The student will face disciplinary action, according to police.

No other firearms were found in the San Ramon house, detectives reported.

On Thursday, a 14-year-old Milpitas High School student was arrested after allegedly bringing a gun onto campus.

In Santa Cruz on Wednesday, Branciforte Middle School was placed on lockdown after a disassembled gun was found on campus.

On Monday, a student at Village High School in Pleasanton was arrested for allegedly bringing a loaded handgun to campus.

Anyone with information on the San Ramon incident should contact the police department at 925-973-2779.
