Thousands Run in Oakland Marathon

Race organizers said that 9,100 people showed up at 7:30 a.m. to start the race.

About 2,400 people participated in the 5-kilometer race, about twice as many as turned up last year.

Devon Yanko, 30, of San Anselmo, was the women's full-marathon winner with a record-setting time of 2 hours, 47 minutes and 24 seconds.

Shinji Nakadai, 34, of Berkeley, was the men's full-marathon winner, with a final time of 2 hours, 37 minutes,29 seconds.
