Power Restored After Hours Without Electricity in Berkeley

A power outage in Berkeley left thousands of people without electricity for hours Sunday morning.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company reported that the outage happened at around 7:35 a.m. and it has affected the cities of Berkeley, El Cerrito, Albany, Oakland, Kensington, San Pablo and Richmond. Power was restored at 11:01 a.m. 

The outage was caused by an equipment failure at the El Cerrito PG&E substation.

BART Downtown Berkeley Station was closed for about two hours due to the outage. But at 10:12 a.m., the station reopened. 

A total of 50,000 customers were affected by the power outage.
