A 44-year-old gunman killed five people during a November shooting spree in a rural community located in Northern California's Tehama County. The gunman then took his own life. 

5. NorCal Wildfires Leave 11 Dead, Burn 1,500 Structures

On the night of Oct. 8, an unprecedented fire storm ignited in the North Bay. Wind-whipped flames would go on to kill 43 people, wipe out thousands of homes and force scores of residents to flee for their lives.

6. Woman Rescued After Car Falls Into Sinkhole in SoCal

Drivers in SoCal received quite the surprise when a 20-foot sinkhole swallowed both of their vehicles. Almost movie-like footage from the scene captured one of the cars sticking straight out of the hole with its headlights and windshield wipers still working.
