Two Teens Arrests For Trace Arson

San Jose police announced a break in this summer's destructive fire at Trace Elementary and were quick to credit the reward in the case for helping solve it.

Police said they arrested two teenagers on arson related charges this week.  Investigators didn't release many details on the arrests, other than to say one of the suspects is 17 years old.  They said they won't release names or mug shots because the suspects are juveniles.

They also didn't say what motivated the crime.

Police made the arrests on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

Police held a news conference on the developments Thursday morning.    They also announced for the first time that the fire started outside the school building, adding the suspects did not make entry into the school.

The fire on July 5 caused $10 million in damage to the school and destroyed several classrooms.

Students were able to start school as scheduled in the fall only due to herculean efforts by school officials, teachers and parents.  Many area still in temporary classrooms.
