Traffic has slowed to a crawl on U.S. Highway 101 near Morgan Hill Monday night due to an overturned tanker that was carrying thousands of pounds of liquid wax.
The California Highway Patrol received report at 2:43 p.m. that a truck carrying liquid wax overturned at the Cochrane Road exit, CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said.
The truck driver was injured and was taken to a hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.
Three of four lanes near the crash were closed and were not scheduled to reopen until Caltrans has repaired deep gouges in the road caused by the crash. You can see the gouges from our helicopter shot above the crash.
Thousands of pounds of wax may have to be pumped out of the truck and into another one, Van Eckhardt said.
A tow truck arrived on scene around 5:30 to attempt upright the truck and tow it away, according to the San Jose Fire Department.
No wax has leaked onto the roadway.
