Kids Suspected of Stealing Turtles From Petco, Killing 1

Police in the South Bay are looking for the kids who they believe stole several turtles from a pet store then violently killed one of them.

San Jose police will only say they are looking into the incident that allegedly took place at the Petco on Blossom Hill Road and Santa Teresa Boulevard.

The turtles stolen are red-eared sliders, the most popular type of turtles sold at Bay Area pet shops.

Two of the juvenile suspects were caught by Petco surveillance cameras. Investigators said, after the theft, they went into the Kohl's department store next door, stole a few watches, and left the rest of the stolen turtles behind.

The store handed over the surveillance video to investigators. Police said their investigation is ongoing.

A store spokesperson said the surviving turtles are doing fine inside their tank at Petco.
