Two-Alarm Fire at Pallet Business in San Jose

Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at a pallet business in San Jose on Monday, which could have been worse because of all the wood nearby.

The fire was reported at 1:59 a.m. at Chualar Pallet and Boxes in the 1000 block of Oakland Road at Maybury Road, according to fire officials. A next-door neighbor is A-1 Lumber at 1080 Oakland Road.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 5:08 a.m., fire officials said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and no injuries have been reported. Arson investigators were sent in to investigate, as no one was in the business and a chain link fence surrounds the yard. But later in the morning, and with the help of some surveillance video, firefighters were leaning toward the theory that the blaze was accidental.

Some nearby businesses were also damaged from the fire, including about 20 cars from a nearby body shop.

"The flames were really, really close," a Ben Trih said. "Everyone came out safe."
