Two Charged in Fremont Murder-for-Hire Plot for Life Insurance Claim: DA

The Alameda County District Attorney filed murder charges against two individuals Thursday for their suspected involvement in a murder of a 62-year-old man in Fremont.

Maria Moore alledgely hired Marvel Salvant to kill Dominic Sarkar on Oct. 8 in the 43000 block of Charleston Way, according to Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O’Malley. Officials say Moore is the beneficiary of Sarkar's life insurance policies.

Sarkar was shot and killed in his bedroom, police said. The victim was renting the house with another family unrelated to him. Someone from that family called 911 after hearing gunshots, according to police.

Moore and Salvant were charged with murder, with two special circumstances alleging that the murder was carried for financial gain and that it was committed by means of lying in wait.

Salvant was also charged with a possession of a firearm in violation of code.

Fremont police said this is the second homicide in the city this year.
