Two Die in East Oakland Apartment Fire

Two people were carried outside of a 2-alarm fire at an East Oakland apartment early Monday morning and were pronounced dead shortly afterward.

The man and woman had not yet been identified by noon, but firefighters did say they think the blaze was accidental.

Oakland fire Battalion Chief Coy Justice said the fire was reported about 1:15 a.m. in the 6200 block of Eastlawn Street shortly after 1:15 a.m.

The fire was the third at the building since May.

There was a fire on the top front of the building on May 1 and a trash fire inside a bathroom
on Dec. 18, Justice said.

PG&E stopped providing power to the building after the blaze 10 days ago, so there shouldn't have been anyone inside the building on Monday, he said.
