Two Homes Firebombed in San Leandro

Two molatov cocktails were thrown in separate homes in the East Bay overnight.

San Leadro police are investigating two incidents overnight where a glass bottle filled with gasoline was thrown into apparently random homes.

The first incident happened at 3:25 a.m. on the 500 block of West Merle Court. People there called 911 when they heard a loud crashing noise at the front of their home. When police arrived they noticed a heavy odor of gasoline and found a broken glass bottle with a rag in it on the living room floor.

Police said the bottle had been thrown through a now broken front window. The bottle was not on fire and no one was hurt.

Then at 9:20 a.m. San Leandro officers were called to a home on the 500 block of East Merle Court. A glass bottle was also thrown through a front window of this home, but this time it caught fire. Fire crews were able to keep the flames controlled to the living room and no one was hurt.

Investigators said the people who live in the two homes do not know each other. The only similarity is the name of their street.

"We will be conducting a criminal investigation into both incidents.  At this time we are trying to establish motives and why the two homes were targeted," Lt. Jeff Tudor said.
