San Jose: Two Homicides in Span of Four Hours

The surge in violence comes just hours after members of the east San Jose community held a peace prayer.

San Jose police are investigating the city's 35th and 36th homicides of the year.

Police say a group of people were standing outside a home on the 2300 block of Dobern Avenue around midnight Wednesday when someone walked up and opened fire. One man was shot and killed. Police think he was targeted. They are still looking for the shooter and say it is possible he was not alone. Police think the shooting was be gang related.

Just hours earlier, officers responded to reports of a fight about three miles away on the 100 block of South Second St. in Downtown San Jose. They arrived around 8:30 p.m. and found a man unconscious and not breathing. Emergency crews used CPR on the way to the hospital, but could not resuscitate him.

Police think the man was involved in a fight on the sidewalk and the other person(s) involved took off before police arrived. So far no suspects have been identified or arrested.

The surge in violence comes just hours after members of the east San Jose community held a peace prayer. They gathered at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church to pray for an end to the violence.
