Two People Hospitalized in Antioch Shooting: Police

Woman riding in passing vehicle struck in the head by stray bullet after gunman opens fire on parked car

Two people were shot in Antioch on Monday after a gunman opened fire into a parked car, smashing the car's windows and hitting a passing vehicle, according to Antioch police.

A woman riding in the passing vehicle with two men and a child was struck in the head by a stray bullet, police said. She was taken to a hospital and her condition was not known. The other occupants of that vehicle were not injured.

The second victim, a man, was found at a nearby business shot in the arm and torso. His injuries were not considered life threatening, police said.

Police obtained surveilance video that shows two men walking down Cavallo near East 18th about noon, exchanging words with someone, when suddenly one of the men pulls a handgun and fires repeatedly.

Shortly after the shooting, police surrounded a nearby apartment complex and took several suspects into custody.

Neighbor Enrique Porras said the shooting has him on edge for his son's safety.

"Now I've got to keep an eye out for his safety, which I always have, but now it's more of a concern," Porras said.
