Two Suspects in Custody Following Pursuit, Crash on Highway 4 in Pittsburg

Traffic on Highway 4 in Pittsburg was jammed Thursday afternoon after a white Cadillac sedan being pursued by the California Highway Patrol and Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office crashed into a motorcycle and another vehicle.

The three-vehicle collision occurred on the freeway near San Marcos Drive when the suspect vehicle hit the center divide.

The suspects, a man and a woman, ran from the vehicle and were unsuccessful in trying to carjack another motorist. Officers were able to catch both suspects and take them into custody.

At 2:58 p.m., the CHP was contacted by the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office, who was in pursuit of the vehicle. The CHP joined the pursuit on Highway 4, east of Railroad Avenue.

CHP said the suspect vehicle was going in excess of 90 mph.

Officials said there were no serious injuries in the collision.

A Sig-alert was issued by the CHP just before 4 p.m. Several lanes of eastbound traffic were still closed around 5 p.m.
