The hospital was also named the best hospital in San Francisco, and second best in California, according to the report.

UCSF was also ranked nationally in 15 adult specialties and 10 pediatric specialties.

Stanford Health Care-Stanford Hospital was ranked 14 on the list. It was nationally ranked in 12 adult specialties. It was ranked third in California and number one in the San Jose area.

The report used data from nearly 5,000 medical centers and analyzed survey responses from more than 30,000 physicians to rank the hospitals in 16 adult specialties from cancer to urology. In addition, the rankings used information on death rates for patients who represent especially challenging cases and patient safety.

The honor roll list is made up of the hospitals that were nationally ranked in the 16 specialties and named "high performing" in a series of nine of conditions and procedures.

The top hospital on the honor roll list was Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, following by Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
