U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Hopefuls Face Off in San Jose on Final Day of Rio Trials

Eyes set on Rio, a handful of American gymnasts are in the final stages of jockeying for a spot on the five-member roster that will represent the red, white and blue in the summer games next month.

14 female gymnasts from around the country will wrap up competition Sunday evening at the U.S. Olympic Trials in San Jose's SAP Center before finding out their Olympic fate.

The all-around champion will be guaranteed a spot on the team but the four remaining spots will be up to Martha Karolyi and the Olympic Selection Committee to decide, according to NBC.

As of Saturday, Simone Biles was the odds-on favorite to lock up the top position on the team after finishing with the highest score, according to U.S.A. Gymnastics. Laurie Hernandez and Aly Raisman grabbed control of the second and third spots, respectively. MyKayla Skinner, Ragan Smith, Madison Kocian, Gabby Douglas and Maggie Nicholas rounded out the next several spots in the rankings after Saturday's action.

The Olympic team will be announced shortly after the competition comes to its conclusion.
