Union City Bicyclist Injured in Hit and Run; Driver Later Surrenders: Police

A bicyclist in Union City suffered possible life-threatening injuries Tuesday in a hit-and-run collision involving a white van, according to Union City police.

The collision occurred on westbound Alvarado-Niles Road at Dowe Avenue. The cyclist, 24-year-old Aries Yusi of Union City, was transported to a local hospital.

The driver of the van, 42-year-old Vinitha Rangachari of Fremont, initially fled the scene, but later turned herself in at the Fremont Police Department and was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run with injury.

The collision is being investigated by the Union City Police Department Traffic Unit. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Union City Traffic Officer Mike Silva at 510-675-5292
