VTA Light Rail Train Strikes, Kills Pedestrian in San Jose

A light rail train fatally struck a male pedestrian in San Jose Sunday night, according to a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority spokeswoman.

At around 9 p.m., a light rail train struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Southwest Expressway and Stokes Street near the Bascom Station, a San Jose fire dispatcher said.

VTA spokeswoman Colleen Valles said the preliminary investigation into the collision suggests that a person was fatally struck when they ran in front of a moving light rail train.

According to reports, the man killed by the train may have been chasing after his dog.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation and the identity of the deceased person has not yet been released.
