Vacaville: Wal-Mart Shoplifting Incident Leads to Officer-Involved Shooting

A Vacaville police officer shot at least one of two suspects who allegedly stole televisions from a Wal-Mart Friday afternoon, Vacaville spokesman Mark Mazzaferro said.

The incident happened shortly after 3 p.m. in Vacaville, Mazzaferro said.

A Vacaville police officer tried to stop the suspects who fled in a vehicle, but the car sped away onto eastbound Interstate Highway 80, Mazzaferro said.

At some point an officer fired a shot at the vehicle, striking a male suspect in the chest, Mazzaferro said.

The suspects' car hit two other vehicles on eastbound I-80 between Meridian and Midway roads, Mazzaferro said.

The female suspect in the car suffered a hand injury either when the Vacaville officer shot at the car or in one of the two collisions on the highway, Mazzaferro said.

The two suspects and the five people in the two other cars were all taken to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center, Mazzaferro said.

The condition of the man who was shot in the chest is not known.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter landed on the freeway but was not needed to transport any of the injured to the hospital, Mazzaferro said.
