Van Ness Avenue Closed This Weekend in San Francisco

A major thoroughfare in San Francisco will be closed this weekend.

Van Ness Avenue shut down in both directions between Geary Boulevard and Post Street shortly after midnight Friday and will run through 11:59 p.m. Sunday. The weekend closure will allow for construction of a pedestrian tunnel for the new California Pacific Medical Center campus.

Muni and Golden Gate Transit buses and emergency vehicles will have access to the road during the closure. In addition, pedestrians will be allowed to use the sidewalk on one side of the street, officials said.

Detours will take drivers on recommended routes on Larkin, Franklin and Gough streets.

Another closure of Van Ness Avenue is scheduled for April 24-26 and during Labor Day weekend in September.
