Visiting Hours Extended at Santa Clara County Jail

If a loved one is in jail, you'll have more opportunity to visit – provided he or she is a ward of Santa Clara County's Main Jail South.

Visiting hours at that institution have been extended from weekends only to 7 a.m. to 4:20 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

That means more time to see friends and family for the jail's 110 maximum security inmates.

The extended hours will run until at least June 30, and are funded thanks to extra overtime for the sheriff's deputies who provide security, the newspaper reported.

Sheriff's officers agreed to the extra hours after receiving requests from the public.
