Walnut Creek Woman Kidnapped From Front Yard, Forced to Withdraw Cash, Police Say

A gunman kidnapped a Walnut Creek woman from her own front yard, then dropped her off unharmed after forcing her to withdraw cash from an ATM, police said Tuesday.

The man approached the woman at her home on Muller Road about noon, according to police. He forced the woman into her car and made her drive to the Bank of America on Main Street in downtown.

Police said the gunman ordered the woman to withdraw cash from the ATM. She then drove him back to her house where he took off on foot.

"We are not releasing the interaction at the bank," Walnut Creek Police Lt. Steve Gorski said. "We are still investigating, looking at multiple witnesses statements at this point."

The victim said she didn’t get a look at the man, who had obscured his identity with a straw hat, sunglasses and something over his face. The woman’s husband said she is rattled, but OK.

Residents in the normally quiet Muller Road neighborhood were shaken to hear of the incident.

"It's stunning, this is a very quiet street and not a lot happens here," resident Terry Pollack said.

Police haven’t released any other details, but said they are checking for surveillance video.
