Weather-Related Rockslide Briefly Closes Niles Canyon SR-84 in Fremont

A storm walloped parts of the Bay Area over the weekend, downing trees and power lines, flooding roadways, and even damaging piers.

By Monday morning, the rain had tapered off but not before the wet weather interrupted the morning commute in the East Bay.

According to Fremont police, a rockslide was reported on Niles Canyon SR-84 around 4:40 a.m.

Police closed the roadway to clear the blockage and estimated around 7 a.m. that it would likely be several hours before it was reopened.

They took to Twitter, however, at about 8:15 a.m. saying that cars were being allowed through again.
