Weighted Down Body Found in Oakland Estuary

A person reported seeing the body feet up in the water.

Investigators are at the Oakland Estuary, where a man's body was found weighted down in the water this morning, a police spokeswoman said.

Police received a report at 6:29 a.m. that someone had spotted feet sticking up out of the water a few feet from a dock at 115 Embarcadero, Oakland police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said.

Firefighters also responded, and pulled the body from the water.

Watson said there were some weights "associated with the body" that had apparently been used to hold it down in the water.

She said she could not yet provide more details on the case, and that the coroner's office will examine the body.
