Wendy Davis Headed to San Francisco for Pro-Choice Fundraiser

Texas Senator in SF on August 16

San Francisco is due to welcome Wendy Davis, the Austin, Texas lawmaker whose filibuster -- and pink running shoes -- made national news, according to reports.

Davis -- the Democratic Texas state senator whose filibustering in opposition to tough new restrictions on abortion in Texas made her a national hero among women and pro-choice advocates -- is coming to San Francisco with womens' rights activist Sandy Fluke for a fundraiser next month, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The restrictions on abortion in Texas were recently signed into law by Gov. Rick Perry.

The women will speak at an Aug. 16 luncheon at San Francisco's Fairmont Hotel, the newspaper reported.

The fundraiser is for EMILY's List, a pro-choice lobby. Davis -- whose story from being a single mom to graduating from Harvard Law School was used as an example by both her detractors as well as her supporters -- has raised almost $1 million nationwide since her June filibuster.
