Wind Advisories on Bay Area Bridges

High wind advisories were in effect Thursday afternoon for the Bay Bridge and the San Mateo Bridge, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

Advisories were also issued earlier in the day for the Golden Gate and Richmond-San Rafael bridges, but those have been cancelled, the CHP reports.

The highway patrol issues wind advisories when patrol officers report winds are causing their vehicles to shift.

The CHP is encouraging drivers to keep both hands on the wheel as they cross the bridges.

"It's like when you're passing a big-rig," CHP officer Peter Van Eckhardt said.
