San Francisco Municipal Railway's Muni Metro service has resumed Wednesday afternoon after a woman jumped in front of a train in an apparent suicide attempt, police and Muni officials said.
The incident was reported at 11:13 a.m. at the underground station near Van Ness Avenue and Market Street.
The woman was taken to the trauma center at San Francisco General Hospital, fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said. She was alive and breathing when she was transported, Muni spokesman Paul Rose said.
Police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said investigators determined the woman jumped in front of the train in an apparent suicide attempt. She remains at the hospital Wednesday afternoon.
The Van Ness station was closed for subway service for about an hour after the incident, Rose said. Bus shuttles were put in place for people traveling between the Embarcadero and Castro stations.
Some bus lines will have residual delays this afternoon because buses were redirected for shuttle service, Rose said.
