Woman Charged With Gilroy Man's Murder: Police

Gilroy police have charged a woman with murdering 56-year-old Robert Joseph Heiser, who was found dead at his house last week, police confirmed to NBC Bay Area Monday.

Police say Gabriela Bernice Ortiz may be part of a crew and may be tied to other robbery cases in the Bay Area. Ortiz is one of the two women seen in a convenience store surveillance video using the dead man's credit cards.

Police have identified four other suspects in connection to the homicide.

Heiser was found early Feb. 16 after neighbors called police about dogs barking, a police spokesman said. Police responded to Heiser's residence in the 1400 block of Bay Tree Drive and a short time later found a man lying unconscious inside, Sgt. Pedro Espinoza said. Emergency medical personnel attempted to save his life but he was pronounced dead, Espinoza said.

This is Gilroyā€™s first homicide case of 2015, according to police.

Police are requesting anyone with information about the case to call the department's investigations bureau at (408) 846-0350 or to provide information anonymously at the We-Tip line at (800) 782-7463.
