Woman Assaulted in Bathroom at Los Medanos College

The suspect was wearing gloves and a bandana over his face.

Campus security at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg say a man wearing a black hoodie, black leather gloves and a bandana covering his most of his face sexually assaulted a woman in a bathroom Thursday night.

The assault happened around 9 p.m. in the second floor bathroom of the student services complex, said Contra Costa Community College District spokesman Tim Leong.

"The assailant was well covered up: black hoodie, face mask, things like that. He really didn’t want to be identified. So it was a little strange, clearly suspicious activity," Leong said.

The victim, a student at the community college, called campus security immediately to report the incident, so police were able to search the immediate area quickly, Leong said. Pittsburg police searched nearby.

Kevin Almazan, 23, a psychology student from Antioch, said the attack was devastating, "for not only the person that this happened to but to the community. We have to be on our toes and have our eyes always open."

"You think you’d be safe with security and everyone around. But for that to happen so close to my English classroom too," said Jessica Nieto, a criminal justice student.

The suspect was described as a 6-foot tall white man in his 30s with blue eyes and an average build.

Anyone with information about the assault should call campus police services at 925-439-1505.
