Woman Dies in Sunnyvale Fire

A fast moving fire in a Sunnyvale mobile home park claimed the life of a woman overnight.

Neighbors tried desperately to save the two people inside the home, but could only get to one in time.

The name of the woman who died is not being released.

Neighbors said flames from the fire reached 40 feet at the Plaza Del Rey Mobile Home Community in Sunnyvale just before midnight.

Two people were inside the burning unit; a man and a woman.

A neighbor who was walking his dog saw the flames and tried to wake the people.

"I start banging the door ringing door bell. I don't hear anybody. Then I hear sirens," Michael Mahone said.

He then grabbed a hose and started spraying down the unit until crews arrived.

A police officer helped pull the man out as firefighters arrived.

The woman died at the scene. Investigators think the fire started in a rear bedroom.

The cause is under investigation.
